Happy New Year & Zaro's Closing

Postby info » Mon Dec 28, 2015 10:48 am

Happy New Year to all the Stratton Park folks - hope it is a good one! Some Neighborhood News: For those who haven't heard, Zaro's in Parkchester lost their lease and will be closing today 12/28/15. Zaro's opened their doors at Hugh Grant Circle in 1959! Other NY locations will remain open. I think of the other bakeries in the neighborhood! (Hoers) - Also Leonard's Bake Shop on White Plains is/has closed, as that whole block including Harmony Records and the old Palace Theater is slated for demo - new apartments to be built there.

To all of us that grew up either in the Park Stratton or Parkchester, today is a very sad day. The end of an era happened yesterday - Zaro's, Leonards Bakery, Harmony Records, etc have closed their doors for good. The entire block from East Tremont to Guerlain, White Plains Road to Unionport Road all stores are now closed and will be torn down. The rain that we are having is not rain but tears of sadness for the businesses along with livelihoods that have been taken from us. We - at least I - will forever hold these places near and dear. Good luck to all the proprietors, employees and their families in the coming days, weeks, months and years. You all will be dearly missed.

Good news! Zaro's is reopening in Parkchester 2 doors down from the original location. Here's a link to the segment from PIX11 news:
